When Words Become Groans (Grieving Over Uvalde)

This has been a difficult week. First, hearing of the sexual and spiritual abuse (and then the cover-ups) within the SBC, and then to hear of the shootings at the elementary school in Uvalde, Texas. All this is overwhelming. My thoughts and prayers for all the families and individuals affected by all this.

As we consider prayer, I imagine there are a number of people who desire to draw near to God, but who are also struggling with knowing what to pray. This is okay. God understands even our wordless prayers. We are told,

Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. ~ Romans 8:26

If all you can do is sob and weep in the bosom of our Heavenly Father, that’s okay. The Holy Spirit will intercede through the groans and sobs that are far deeper than words. May the God of all comfort bring comfort to you and all the families today. God bless you.
